Announcing New Ochsner Medical Facility at The Grove

Last Thursday, June 8, Stirling Properties participated in the announcement of Ochsner Health System’s new medical facility at The Grove in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Ochsner Health System and Stirling Properties Mike Bucher

The project includes a new five-story, 155,000-square-foot medical office building, and a 30,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center. The new clinic will be located along the I-10 Bluebonnet/Siegen corridor on approximately 25 acres of property as part of the High Grove development planned near the Mall of Louisiana and fronting Interstate 10. Anticipated completion is scheduled for early 2019.

New Ochsner Facility Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Stirling Properties will be responsible for over $15 million of infrastructure improvements, as well as the completion of the 11-mile BREC multi-use trail through the site. On behalf of Ochsner, Stirling has also handled pre-development efforts, including site selection, due diligence, economic feasibility, and state and local permitting coordination.

Scheduled infrastructure improvements include new roadways and a bridge across Wards Creek that will connect Grove Blvd. to the I-10 frontage road and ease traffic congestion. A new sewer lift station will be installed to serve the Ochsner facility, as well as replace an existing one that services several hundred homes in the neighboring Morning Glen and Audubon Terrace neighborhoods. A new underground drainage system will be built to accommodate water runoff from surrounding property in addition to the Ochsner site, which will result in improved drainage condition in future storm events.

During the construction phase, these new projects will bring nearly 1,630 construction jobs in addition to over 450 permanent jobs that will be relocated from the existing Summa clinic.

Additional project announcements are forthcoming.

Developers Break Ground on Nicholson Gateway in Baton Rouge

Nicholson Gateway Ground Breaking

Stirling Properties was pleased to participate in the groundbreaking of Nicholson Gateway last week, a 28-acre mixed-use housing and retail development located on the northwest corner of Nicholson Drive and Skip Bertman Drive across from Tiger Stadium. The development will include a 1,700-bed student housing and athletic dormitory with study areas and green spaces, as well as roughly 50,000 square feet of university focused retail space.

Stirling Properties was selected as the retail developer and leasing broker on the project, working with the prime developer, Georgia-based RISE that specializes in student housing. Stirling Properties will also handle on-going retail property management.

“Stirling Properties is proud to be involved on the development team of Nicholson Gateway. This mixed-use project will not only enhance the LSU campus, but will provide an activity hub for students and visitors,” said Townsend Underhill, Stirling Properties Senior Vice President of Development. ”In addition, this growth is creating much needed on-campus student housing, new job opportunities and economic development for the area.”

Nicholson Gateway Project

Nicholson Gateway is expected to be open to students for the fall semester of 2018. The development will transform one of the largest remaining underdeveloped tracts of university property, turning an overlooked area into an exciting new corridor.

Louisiana Flood 2016

This is a challenging time for South Louisiana. Many of our family and friends have experienced unprecedented devastation and loss resulting from disastrous flooding in the area. At least 40,000 homes have been damaged and thirteen people lost their lives.

The historic flooding resulted from record ‘1,000-year’ rainfalls produced from an unusual series of slow-moving thunderstorms that dumped tremendous amounts of water on an isolated area in excess of 30 inches in 48 hours. It was more than rivers and drainage systems could possibly hold.

Though the devastation was severe, we are thankful that the vast majority of South Louisiana is safe. In large part, those of us that have previously flooded were spared, and areas that have never seen flooding before were inundated.

While some are still struggling, conditions are improving. Louisianans are resilient—as we’ve seen time and time again—and efforts are already shifting to recovery and progress. People are returning home, businesses are reopening. Cities and communities that were not directly impacted have the opportunity to pay it forward with relief efforts to assist our neighboring residents in need.

Stirling Properties is directing our energy and resources to our employees and surrounding communities that were affected by the flooding. We’re collecting and distributing emergency assistance supplies and basic needs items for victims, and our team members are volunteering with clean-up and recovery efforts. We’re partnering with many local organizations and have made financial contributions to several nonprofits to assist with relief efforts, as well as providing emergency housing.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people, businesses and communities affected by this horrific event. Stirling Properties is committed to South Louisiana and the surrounding areas, and we will be here to help in the recovery efforts, both short- and long-term.

Thank you to everyone that has reached out to us and offered your support and assistance. We are truly grateful for your generosity.
