  3. The deal today is a product of over a year of negotiations and coordination. In the Wal-Mart world this is a quick closing but is a huge milestone for both River Chase and Western St. Tammany Parish. Wal-Mart’s purchase of 16.58 acres at River Chase, to build a Sam’s Club, solidifies a prominent anchor to the next phase of the project with a retailer that appeals to the Covington / Mandeville shopper. Sam’s Club intends to start construction in the next 60 days bringing significant economic impact to Western St. Tammany Parish in the form of 100+ jobs and high anticipated sales figures.

In addition to Sam’s Club, Stirling is currently under construction with a 50,000 s.f. expansion of the existing shopping center, Favrot and Shane is well underway with the Brewtser Commons apartment project with the first units opening for occupancy in October, and the Holiday Inn developers will be breaking ground in the next 60 days on their hotel site. More development activity at River Chase will be announced in the coming months, so stay tuned.
