COVINGTON, LA and CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – January 15, 2013 – Stirling Properties and CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. (NYSE:  CBL) today announced the formation of a 35/65 joint venture to develop Fremaux Town Center in Slidell, Louisiana. Once complete, the 80+ acre site will consist of two phases.  Phase I will comprise approximately 295,000 square feet with anchors including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michaels, T.J.Maxx, and Kohl’s.  Phase II will include up to 300,000 square feet of additional retail space. Construction is set to begin on Phase I in March of this year, with the grand opening scheduled for the second quarter of 2014.

“Stirling Properties is excited about our partnership with CBL & Associates Properties to develop Fremaux Town Center and believes that this joint venture brings the best possible team together to build this project,” said Stirling Properties’ Senior Vice President of Development Townsend Underhill.  “We believe this site has the characteristics to become a premier retail shopping destination and we are happy to continue our long and successful history of retail development in the City of Slidell.”

“Stirling Properties has a solid reputation as a leading retail developer in southern Louisiana and we are pleased to partner with them on this project,” said Michael Lebovitz, CBL’s Executive Vice President – Development and Administration.  “Fremaux Town Center is well-located and is already well leased with an outstanding retail line-up.  We are looking forward to announcing additional retailers as the development progresses.”

Fremaux Town Center Phase I is currently more than 70% leased with committed retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michaels, Kohl’s, PetSmart, T.J.Maxx, LongHorn Steakhouse, dressbarn, ULTA Beauty, Lane Bryant, Rack Room Shoes, Best Buy and Versona Accessories.  Fremaux Town Center will be located on more than 80 acres at the southwest corner of Interstate 10 and Fremaux Avenue in Slidell, LA.  Slidell is the largest municipality in St. Tammany Parish on the northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain near the city of New Orleans.  The area has experienced significant growth following Hurricane Katrina.  With its interstate location and high-visibility, Fremaux Town Center is expected to become a regional destination.  Stirling will lead the development of the project and CBL and Stirling will jointly lease and market the center.

    1. so true! I live on the gulf coast and Metairie is just too far for us to go for whole foods but slidell can def. do!! please bring whole foods

      1. Ashley Everett, thank you so much for also expressing your interested in the possibility of a Whole Foods in the new Fremaux Town Center additions. I truly wish and hope that the owners and contractors consider the fact that they would receive business from this area, the Mississippi coast residents, Picayune, Mandeville/Covington and New Orleans East.

Everyone that I have spoken to concerning the upcoming attractions for our new shopping mall have also stated that they are hoping for a Whole Foods. Quite frankly, some of the attractions that are arriving are not necessary as they weren’t receiving much business at their old locations in the Northshore Square Mall.

Let’s just keep our fingers crossed!

  1. I definitely would like a Trader Joe’s! My mother has one in Atlanta and its great! This store would draw customers from all over the Northshore, New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. I would frankly rather have it than Whole Foods. I can go into NO for that. Trader Joe’s has more specialty items that I would use on a more often basis, and the prices are much better. It would definitely be a huge plus for the center.

    1. We will be announcing additional signed tenants for Phase I soon…stay tuned to the Stirling Insights blog for the update!

    2. Trader Joes has won the best grocery so many times, they have a better selection than whole foods, and are a lot less expensive! They carry organic foods too! I think trader Joes would benefit the shopping center!

  2. Please TRY to get US a Barnes & Noble/Coffee type Cafe’ setting!!! WE would love a Le’Madeleine’s, Whole Food’s or Trader Joe’s. I heard years ago, Macy’s was going to join Fremaux Town Center? Hope it’s so!!! Looking good on Fremaux!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Thank you for the great selections, all of which are noted as good prospects. With the state of the book business in today’s economy, it is highly unlikely that one of the book users will do a deal with us at this time. However, we are actively working on a very large national chain coffee shop that will include a café setting on one of our outparcels. We hope to be able to announce the deal soon. We have a signed agreement with Panera to do a full service Panera restaurant and bakery with a drive-thru, we think you will be pleased with that use. As for the specialty grocers, we would love to land one of them in this project. Thus far we have not been successful in doing so, but we will continue to pursue those users and others.

      1. I sure hope Traders Joe decides to build in Slidell. When I go home to Westlake Ohio, the trader’s Joe at Crocker Park is the anchor. Having a fun, and reasonable grocery store will keep all businesses going. Traders Joes would be so much better than Whole foods, as it is cheaper and more diverse and young people love it too!

  3. I vote for Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Macy’s, Panera Bread, World Market, Apple, Lush, The Body Shop, Charlotte Russe, DSW Shoes, Joe’s Crab Shack, Sephora, Gap, HH Gregg, Torrid, & Don Pablo’s.
